MARY FARRIS
Senior Director of ESG and Sustainability
Mary heads the company’s overall ESG program, including strategy, targets, regulatory interpretation, and disclosures. In her previous role at GE, she led operational sustainability, managing not only the company’s environmental sustainability targets and footprints, but their overall ESG external footprint and disclosure strategy. At this same time, Mary led EHS Operations at GE Corporate. She has a background in marketing, spent years in a compliance function, was a decorated educator, and supported GE’s Healthymagination organization. Her strengths are employee engagement, building strategic external relationships, and leading transformative initiatives. She graduated with honors from Union College in Schenectady, NY with a bachelor’s degree in English. She also holds a Master of Arts in teaching with a specialization in English and was at one time a really hard English teacher. Mary is based in Sudbury, Massachusetts. She is the mother of two, Zachariah (25) and Riley (24) and volunteers her time to other families and individuals needing educational advocacy. In her spare time, she is an avid cook, book hoarder, grammarian, and a sometimes-blogger.

Highlights

Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 38% (2019 baseline), and reduced Scope 1 emissions from the company’s fabs by 43% (2022 baseline).
Increased renewable energy use to 59% in 2024.
Diverted 95% of waste from manufacturing facilities from landfill in 2024.
Achieved a water reuse rate of 54% in 2024, equating to 1.07 billion gallons of water.
Certified three additional facilities to LEED standards in 2024.
Since 2021, increased women managers to 25% (up from 23%); women engineers to 22% (up from 20%); and Black, Hispanic and Latinx employees in the U.S. to 7% (up from 6%).
Is working toward goal of achieving 100% pay equity, and has recently achieved less than 1% pay equity difference for minorities and non-minorities in the U.S. and less than 2% difference for females and males in similar roles.
Increased the number of hours volunteered by employees by 62%, from over 14,500 hours in 2023 to over 23,500 in 2024.

NEWSWEEK / STATISTA — Published its America’s Most Responsible Companies 2025 list, ranking 600 U.S. companies (out of the 2,000 largest publicly traded companies) on ESG performance. The analysis is based on 30 key performance indicators along with consumer reputation. Merck scored #1, with 97.83 points (out of 100). CEF members in the top 50 include: General Mills (#2), Applied Materials (#4), HP (#6), Mastercard (#7), Hewlett Packard Enterprise (#9), Ecolab (#12), Analog Devices (#13), Qualcomm (#29), Cisco Systems (#31), Visa (#33), CBRE (#35), Apple (#42), and General Motors (#50).
