Highlights
- Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 38% (2019 baseline), and reduced Scope 1 emissions from the company’s fabs by 43% (2022 baseline).
- Increased renewable energy use to 59% in 2024.
- Diverted 95% of waste from manufacturing facilities from landfill in 2024.
- Achieved a water reuse rate of 54% in 2024, equating to 1.07 billion gallons of water.
- Certified three additional facilities to LEED standards in 2024.
- Since 2021, increased women managers to 25% (up from 23%); women engineers to 22% (up from 20%); and Black, Hispanic and Latinx employees in the U.S. to 7% (up from 6%).

NEWSWEEK / STATISTA — Published its America’s Most Responsible Companies 2025 list, ranking 600 U.S. companies (out of the 2,000 largest publicly traded companies) on ESG performance. The analysis is based on 30 key performance indicators along with consumer reputation. Merck scored #1, with 97.83 points (out of 100).
