Flex MOSAIC (Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)) — This voluntary classification framework introduces a technology-neutral way to describe and evaluate the flexibility capabilities of large loads based on power system requirements, such as congestion relief, peak reduction, balancing and frequency response. It defines flexibility in terms of performance characteristics (e.g. notification time, duration, depth of load adjustment) and categorizes them to provide a shared understanding of what flexibility is needed and available for utilities, operators, and regulators. The framework was introduced in an open letter to the power and digital infrastructure industries, signed by 48 companies, including CEF Members Carrier, Google, Honeywell, Meta, and Siemens, and invites stakeholders to engage.
