CHRISTINA SHIM
Chief Sustainability Officer
As IBM’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Christina leads the use of hybrid cloud and AI to accelerate progress toward sustainability across IBM’s operations, supply chain, products, and services. Christina previously led IBM’s multibillion-dollar Sustainability Software business, which provided enterprise applications and industry solutions designed to reduce costs, waste, and emissions. Christina also sits on IBM’s AI Ethics Board.

CAROLYN HARTLEY
Emerging Tech and Partnerships Lead, Chief Sustainability Office
Carolyn is the Emerging Technology and Partnerships Lead, Chief Sustainability Office at IBM. In this role, Carolyn leads strategic external partnerships that drive impact for both business value and sustainability initiatives. Carolyn has a background in Chemistry and previously worked in strategy consulting. She has experience working across key industries including tech, semiconductor, and industrial manufacturing. Carolyn is based in Raleigh, NC.

DENISE LUCAS
Director, ESG Assistant Controller
Denise is the ESG Assistant Controller at IBM. IBM’s ESG Controllership is responsible for mandatory ESG reporting and disclosures, acting as a key business partner to the sustainability function and other stakeholders, as well as establishing a strong management system for the company's ESG activities. Prior to this role, Denise had various finance and accounting roles, with over 15 years of experience. Most recently, Denise was the Director, Accounting Policy & External Reporting. Her team was responsible for worldwide accounting policies and preparation and review of SEC filings. Denise was also in IBM’s Investor Relations department. Previously, Denise spent nine years at Deloitte. Beginning her career in the assurance practice, followed by two years in Deloitte's National Office Accounting Services group focusing on revenue, leases, and leading the business combinations team.

- Achieved a 68.5% reduction in operational GHG emissions from the 2010 baseline, surpassing its 2025 goal ahead of schedule.
- Sourced 70.6% of its electricity from renewable energy, on track to meet the 2025 goal of 75% and 2030 goal of 90%.
- Implemented 675 energy conservation projects, avoiding 95,000 MWh of energy consumption and 33,000 mtCO2e emissions.
- Diverted 94.2% of its nonhazardous waste from landfills and incineration, exceeding its 2025 goal.
- Eliminated nonessential single-use plastics from 58 of its 60 cafeteria operations.
- IBM's Global Supplier Diversity Program saw $1.2 billion spent on first-tier diverse suppliers, with a goal of 15% of spending on Black-owned businesses by 2025.
- Completed an external limited assurance audit of its 2023 GHG emissions inventory and underlying data and calculation processes.
- IBM’s 2023 ESG report aligns with frameworks like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
- Earned recognitions such as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere and one of the 100 Most Influential Companies by Time Magazine.
