Announced a partnership with Thailand’s Terra Genesis International to create a regenerative supply chain for rubber to be used in footwear. The supply system will be open to brands across and outside the industry. (May 2021)

Members of the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance (CEVA) and the BICEP Network sent letters (CEVA letter and the BICEP letter) calling for the Biden administration to adopt vehicle standards aligned with climate science and consistent with a pathway to 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. The two Ceres-led networks represent over 80 companies with combined annual revenue of $1.3 trillion and include Amazon, CBRE, Kaiser Permanente, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Siemens, Tiffany & Co., Unilever, and VF Corporation. More than 300 businesses representing over $3 trillion in annual revenue and employing nearly 6 million US workers signed an open letter calling upon President Biden to adopt a GHG emissions reduction target of at least 50% by 2030 (2005 baseline). The New Zealand Merino Company, in collaboration with wool apparel and footwear brands Allbirds®, icebreaker®, and Smartwool® (a VF Corporation brand), unveiled the world’s first regenerative wool program involving 167 farms representing 2.4 million acres in New Zealand. The three apparel and footwear brands, who collectively source 2 million kilograms of wool annually, have committed to procuring their New Zealand Merino through the new program. (February 2021)

A major new coalition, “America is All In,” launched to mobilize bold climate ambitions nationally and uphold the federal government’s commitment to climate action—specifically to cut U.S. emissions in half or more by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. Co-led by UN Special Climate Envoy Michael Bloomberg, the coalition effectively merges We Are Still In and America’s Pledge and is the most expansive effort ever assembled to support climate action in the U.S., involving U.S. businesses, cities, states, tribal nations, schools, and faith groups, health care organizations, and cultural institutions. VF Corporation allocated the net proceeds from its inaugural $596 million green bond issued in 2020 to 13 sustainability projects worldwide. Outcomes included planting 2 million trees, avoiding approximately 16,000 metric tons of CO2e annually through sustainable materials procurement, and saving 970 million liters of water annually through conservation initiatives.   • Eliminating all single-use plastic packaging by 2025. All remaining packaging will be reduced, originate from sustainable sources, and designed for reuse or recyclability
  • Ensuring that all single-use plastics in product packaging are 100% recycled, bio-based content, or a combination by 2023
  • Ensuring that all paper-based packaging uses recycled content (minimum 80%, where performance allows), third-party certified virgin content, or a combination by 2023
  • Contributing leadership in crucial industry coalitions and policy initiatives to build circular packaging infrastructure

VF Corporation announced the closing of its €500 million green bond offering, representing the first green bond issued in the apparel and footwear industry. VF will use the net proceedsto support projects that align with key United Nations SDGs in three areas: Sustainable Products & Materials, Sustainable Operations & Supply Chain (such as renewable energy installations and zero waste distribution centers) and Natural Carbon Sinks, including reforestation conservation projects and investments in regenerative agriculture practices. VF Corporation subsidiary Timberland has partnered with Other Half Processing to launch a pilot program aimed at building a more responsible leather supply chain sourced from ranches and farms that use regenerative cattle grazing practices.
