Outstanding Goals

  • Reduce water use per guest night in water-stressed areas by 30% (Reduced water consumption per guest night by 21% in the Americas, 26% in the Asia Pacific, and 34% in the Middle East & Southwest Asia) 
  • Every managed hotel will divert more than 40% of its waste from landfills (34% of hotels globally have exceeded a 40% waste diversion rate, including Alila hotels in Indonesia, which achieved zero waste)

  • Have 41% of suppliers by emissions (purchased goods and services) set science-based targets
  • Source 100% cage-free shell and liquid eggs in key markets including the U.S., Canada, and Europe by 2022 and globally


2030 Goals

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 27.5% (2019 baseline)
  • Reduce Scope 3 emissions from fuel and energy-related activities, waste generated in operations, business travel and franchised hotels by 53% per square meter (2019 baseline)
  • Achieve a 50% global reduction in food waste sent to landfill or incineration per square meter  (2019 baseline)
  • Increase responsible sourcing of products and services associated with concerns for climate change, deforestation, human rights, waste, public health, resource scarcity, biodiversity, and animal welfare
  • Prioritize the vitality of our global communities by respecting local natural resources and cultural heritage; helping to protect biodiversity and animal welfare; addressing water risks; minimizing pollution; and advancing climate resilience

  • Reduce energy use and GHG emissions per square meter and water per guest night by 25% in each region (2006 baseline) (Goal Met: Reduced GHG emissions per square meter by 33% in the Americas, 29% in the Asia Pacific, and 36% in the Middle East & Southwest Asia)

Highlights


  • Designated 14 Hyatt-owned hotels in the U.S. started operating on 100% renewable electricity through Green-e Energy certified Renewable Energy Certificates.
  • Purchased carbon credits in 2022 supporting sustainable forest management in Brazil's Amazonian communities and avoiding 9.6 million tons of CO2 equivalent over the 40-year project period.
  • Seven Hyatt hotels in Asia Pacific conducted food-waste prevention pilots (reducing food waste by 36% over 3-months) and this program will be expanded to additional hotels in 2023.
  • In 2022, global egg supply for managed and franchised hotels was 28% cage free.
  • In the U.S., more than 50% of entry-level managers are women and almost 55% are persons of color.
  • In the U.S., Black supplier spend accounted for 34% of all diverse- and women-owned supplier spend, surpassing 2025 goal.
  • Joined the Tent Partnership for Refugees, and committed to hire 500 refugees into full- or part-time roles over three years globally by 2025.
  • Offered 8,600 courses to colleagues to develop career skills.
  • Received recognition in 2022 by Fortune for Best Companies to Work For and by Forbes for America’s Best Employers for Diversity

2022

NEW CORPORATE COMMITMENTS TO HIRE REFUGEES — 46 companies that are part of the Tent Partnership for Refugees committed to hire 22,725 refugees in full time positions in the U.S., helping to advance the economic and social integration of refugees across the country. This is the most significant set of business commitments in support of refugees on record. CEF member commitments include: Amazon will hire at least 5,000 refugees; Hyatt will hire 500; Marriott International, 1,500; and PepsiCo, 500, all over a three year period. 2021

Sustainable Hospitality Alliance Is developing a Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality as a cohesive framework for companies to drive regenerative impact across the sector, with support from the World Travel & Tourism Council. The alliance, a group of hospitality companies comprising 30% of the sector, includes CEF members Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Hotels, Marriott International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. A new, first-of-its-kind Hotel Waste Measurement Methodology was issued for the hotel industry to collect data and measure and report on waste. The methodology was developed by World Wildlife Fund and sustainability consulting group Greenview along with an industry working group including Accor, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Marriott International. Launched its World of Care platform to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and responsible business practices. The platform allows Hyatt to share detailed workforce diversity data, roll out a new global human trafficking training, and offer a new wellness assessment and week of well-being programming.  (July 2021)

2019-2020

Hyatt Hotels announced three new global initiatives aimed at reducing single-use plastic waste at its properties by June 2021. The company plans to transition to large-format bathroom amenities to replace traditional small bottles, increase the number of water refill stations in key public spaces at its hotel properties, and serve water in carafes or other containers for meetings and events if bottled water is not requested.
